An Education : Style Obsession

Breakfast at Tiffany's epitomizes the style of the 60's. Lavish yet understated, the elegance of the era is one of my favourite times in fashion. Not since BAT has there been a film that dutifully captures the spirit of the decade, right before the social revolution. An Education, starring Peter Sarsgaard and my favourite newcomer, Carey Mulligan enchants the audience with a heartbreaking story, developed characters and artistic direction that evokes the spirit of the 60s. Through out the film we follow Jenny (Mulligan) evolve from a prim schoolgirl with her heart set on Oxford to a socialite with a gorgeous sense in style.

Jenny meets the vivacious and superficial Helen, who serves as a foil to Jenny's intelligent and curious persona. Helen dresses Jenny up, and we see beloved Jenny transform into a stylish young woman.
I loved this movie so much, and really hope it does well tonight at the Academy Awards. Mulligan is an enchanting newcomer and a great actor with a big future ahead of her. She is perfect for the role, and I can't help but say her innocence and coolness remind me of Audrey Hepburn. An Education is up there in the list of my favourite movies, and it even eclipses BAT in its fabulous interpretation of 60s style.
